I can’t believe I’m about to start interviewing for OB/GYN residency in a few days. The past 4 years (including my research year) have flown by. I remember being a first-year and thinking that I would be in school forever. Now, I’m approaching the end and all I can say is wow! When I look at my calendar and see the list of residency programs that have invited me to interview, I’m still in shock. It just shows me that hard work, dedication, and faith do pay off.
I took some time to write down the things that are most important to me when it comes to a residency program. It’s not how much meal money or whether or not there’s free parking (although those things would be nice! haha) it’s really about finding the place where I can show up as my authentic self and where I’m encouraged to be better every day. Where they think it’s cool that I have a blog like this and it’s not seen as unprofessional that I write about my experiences with the hope that it would inspire others. I’m excited to learn more about these programs and find my people.
I hope if you’re reading this that you keep going. No matter what your goal is, I hope that you are relentless in making it happen. When there are bad days- you know when to rest, recoup, and get back to it when you are ready. DON’T STOP. Ignore the naysayers or the people that say “oh your scores are too low”. They don’t know that you are destined to defy the odds.
Match Day is in March and I can’t wait to see what God has planned for me.
